"Spatulated Tadpole". I'm sorry, that's the best I could come up with to describe the shaping of this freehand meerschaum. The process of elimination led me to either that or "The Flying Pan-Handler". I've made my choice, and now we'll all have to live with it.
That having been said, whatever more appropriate names might be applied to this pipe's aesthetic genealogy aside, the shaping and composition itself is well-executed. Perhaps the most defining feature is the hard edge which runs along much of the left flank, defining, that is, because it is the only hard edge on a form whose aesthetic is otherwise composed of soft, organic curvature.
